What you get

A layout planned before anything is cut

I map the ceiling first. Beams, ducts, wiring, and the furniture below. Then I mark the holes.

Good quality LED lights

Slim fixtures. You pick the shade of white at install, from warm to bright and clean.

Tidy wiring above the ceiling

The part nobody sees, done so the next person can work on it.

The layout is the whole job

Anyone can cut holes in a ceiling. Where the holes go is what separates good from bad.

Ceilings hide beams, ducts and pipes. The easy move is to put lights wherever there is space. That is why you see rooms with lights off-center or in a crooked line.

I plan around the room instead. Squared to the walls, evenly spaced, and light where you need it.

Picking the shade of light

Modern LEDs let you choose the shade of white at install. Warm light suits a living room. Cooler light suits a kitchen or garage where you need to see.

I set them all to match. Mismatched lights in one ceiling is the most common thing I get called to fix.

Common questions

How many lights does my room need?

It depends on ceiling height, room size, and what you use the room for. I work it out with you at the quote.

Will you patch the ceiling?

The cut for a slim light is neat and the trim covers it. If I need to open something bigger, you hear it before I cut. I tell you straight if you need a drywall finisher after me.

Can I put them on a dimmer?

If the lights are dimmable, yes, and I recommend it. Most I install are. I match the dimmer to the lights so they stay quiet and steady when low.

Can you replace my old can lights with these?

Usually yes, and it is a quick job. If the old ones are damaged or the wrong type, I say so.

Does a vaulted or insulated ceiling change things?

Yes. It changes which fixture fits and how much room it needs. I check what is above the ceiling first.

Why most people dread hiring an electrician

Everyone has a story about a contractor. Here's what usually goes wrong, and what I do instead.

What usually happensWhat I do

They show up late (or not at all).

I show up on time.

They buy cheap materials.

I buy materials built to last.

They cut corners.

I think things through.

They leave a mess.

I clean up after myself.

They might be underinsured or unlicensed.

I carry proper insurance and licensing.

They may have a criminal history.

I'm background checked.

They charge by the hour, so you don't know what you'll actually pay.

I quote a flat price, and I stick to it.

They send whoever's available - often an apprentice.

I do every job myself.

They sell you as much as they can, even if you don't need it.

I'll tell you what you actually need.

They vanish when something fails.

I guarantee my work for life. Parts get two years.

They leave the permit to you.

I handle the permit and the inspection, so you don't have to.

I take pride in doing it right, the first time.
