What you get
The right type for the room
Safety outlets near water, weatherproof outside, higher-capacity on kitchen counters. The outlet matches the room.
Connected properly
Wires landed under screws and tightened to spec. Not jammed into the quick-release holes that work loose over time.
Tested before I leave
Every outlet and switch checked, including the trip test on the ones near water.
What I install
Outlets
- Standard outlets, anywhere you need one
- Safety outlets for bathrooms, kitchens, garages and outside. The ones with test and reset buttons that cut power when something goes wrong
- Outlets with USB built in
- Weatherproof outdoor outlets with covers you can use in the rain
- Floor outlets
- Big outlets for a dryer, an electric range, a welder or a car charger
Switches
- Standard switches
- Switches that control one light from two or three places
- Dimmers and fan speed controls
- Timers and sensors that switch on when you walk in
- Smart switches
Things I find and will tell you about
- Outlets wired backwards
- Outlets with no ground connection
- Old two-prong outlets swapped for three-prong ones. Looks fixed. Is not
- Two wires jammed under one screw
- Missing safety outlets in bathrooms, kitchens, garages and outside
If I am already in the wall, I show you what I found. Fixing it is your call.
Adding an outlet where there isn't one
That means running new wire. Most of the cost sits in the run. How far it goes, and how much of the wall is open.
An outlet on the far side of an existing wall is quick. One in a finished basement at the other end of the house is a different number. I look before I quote either.
Common questions
Can you just swap an outlet?
Yes, and it is quick and cheap. If I find something behind it that should not be there, you hear about it.
My old outlets only have two holes and no ground. What are my options?
There are a few, and they cost different amounts. I walk you through what works in your house.
Why does my safety outlet keep tripping?
Either something on that circuit leaks electricity, or the outlet has worn out. Different fixes, so I find out which first.
Can I have USB outlets in the bedrooms?
Yes. A straight swap in most cases.
Can you do a whole room at once?
Yes, and it costs less per outlet than having me back three times.
Why most people dread hiring an electrician
Everyone has a story about a contractor. Here's what usually goes wrong, and what I do instead.
They charge a trip fee just to look at the job.
My quote is free, and you're under no obligation.
They charge by the hour, so you never know the final price.
I quote a flat price.
They show up late (or not at all).
I show up on time, or $100 off.
They send whoever's available, often an apprentice.
Whoever quotes your job does your job. That's me.
They sell you as much as they can, even if you don't need it.
I tell you what you don't need, in writing.
They might be unlicensed, underinsured, or never background checked.
I'm licensed, insured, and background checked.
They vanish when something fails.
I guarantee my work for life. Parts get two years.
They leave the permit to you.
I handle the permit and coordinate the inspection.
I take pride in doing it right, the first time.
